afternoon tea with studio-e

At studio-e, food and conversation have marked the beginning of our best relationships. Four years ago, for example, we brought our portfolio, our ideas and fresh chocolate rugelach to Westover School in Connecticut and began a relationship that has continued to grow. As a strategic design firm that works exclusively with educational institutions, we successfully guided Westover through a branding process, resulting in new admissions and campaign materials that differentiate the school, promote its unique character, and attract and recruit students and donors.

In an effort to solidify our existing relationships and build new ones with independent schools in our region, we’re reaching out with ideas—and food. During our campaign, “Afternoon tea with studio-e,” we’ll be bringing tea and scones to the admissions, communications and development staff of interested local schools to discuss their current issues and share ideas. As Jess courageously cleaned out some of our shelves last week, she found some amusing relics of days gone by. Our favorites:

Software on floppy discs.

Adobe Photoshop 4.0—a CD of the software (1996). For those of you who aren’t familiar with design software, Photoshop is now on version 12.1 (CS 5.5).

Apple Internet Connection Kit (1995), complete with a “CD-ROM disc” and “Getting Started” booklet that opens with, “Welcome to the Internet.” [read more]

out on the farm

A few weeks ago, studio-e spent an afternoon volunteering at Gaining Ground, an organic farm in Concord that donates its produce to area food pantries and meal programs. Though we haven’t helped with raising the crops, we have been involved with the farm since 1997—raising awareness and financial support through designing its marketing and fundraising pieces. Our very own Frank O’Toole graces the cover of GRE General Test: The Very Best Coaching and Study Course, now available on amazon.

How Frank became a test prep model:

A few months ago, he stopped by his former place of work, Weymouth Design, and got pulled into a photo shoot. “Everyone was doing it,” he says. The photographer gave Frank his shirt and blazer, then led the models to the Boston Common.
