grammar tips, part 2: notes from the trenches

Last October, our monthly e-news focused on grammar and, to our surprise, had the highest click rate of any of our newsletters. Seventy-six people downloaded the tip sheet we created, featuring our clients most-asked-about grammar rules and concerns (who or whom? affect or effect?).

We followed up this newsletter with a blog post about exclamation points, which, as the copywriter at studio-e, I feel very strongly about. (!)

Now, we present you with our second grammar tip sheet: “Grammar Tips Part II: Notes from the trenches.” Similar to our first tip sheet, this one addresses some grammar mistakes I see (and edit) often: hyphens and dashes, passive voice, wordiness, spacing. Read through it once or print it out and tack it to your bulletin board; even if you’re a pro, a brush up on your grammar knowledge can only help you and your writing. [read more]

During our campaign, “Afternoon tea with studio-e,” we’ll be bringing tea and scones to the admissions, communications and development staff of interested local schools to discuss their current issues and share ideas. positive change in a poor economy

We’ve discussed the ways in which the studio has grown this year, despite the economy. But we’d be remiss if we didn’t also mention the ways in which some things have shrunk—and for the better.

Take Harvard Business School (HBS), for example. The institution masterfully transitioned—with our assistance—its annual Contributors Report from a 90-page printed book to an integrated set of print and web communications, including a 20-page print piece (see photo), website, postcard and e-mail.
