Improving recognition and reputation—“above and beyond”

St. Luke’s School, an independent day school for grades 5–12 in New Canaan, CT, wanted to attract high-caliber students and elevate its reputation as a school that offers both a warm environment and academic rigor.

studio-e began by getting to know the school, touring the campus, conducting focus groups, interviewing faculty and meeting with Head of School Mark Davis. We then created a communications platform, including key messages, from which the school could base all future marketing materials. With these messages in mind, we developed a wordmark that expresses the school’s balance of innovation and tradition through the thoughtful use of both a serif and a sans serif font, as well as through the integration of the school motto into the mark. To build and ensure a consistent brand, we put together a graphic standards guide, including instructions for wordmark usage, official typefaces and color palettes.

All of these elements served as the foundation for two new admissions viewbooks—one for the Middle School and one for the Upper School, linked together by a single theme, which we created: “above and beyond” and a folder that allows for flexibility. Both books feature student and project profiles that illustrate the school’s community and academic strengths. We additionally designed the St. Luke’s School Profile brochure to coordinate with the viewbooks.

The new pieces effectively capture the St. Luke’s experience of today. The admissions team appreciates the fact that each admissions package can be tailored to individual families, and the new look and feel, combined with the easy-to-use format, has created more excitement among prospective parents and students.
